Peace Inspired in 10-Second Snippets | A Photo Gallery
10-Second Pauses for Peace
Greetings and good Monday to you, fellow life-travelers.
As we collectively embark on a new week, I want to offer snippets of peace inspired by actual moments and scenes in time. I chose 7 photographs from my various adventures and accompanied them with a description that will take approximately 10 seconds to read.
If I’ve done well enough as a photographer and writer, those 10 seconds might just be enough to carry your mind to a place of peace.
I encourage you to sit in that quiet place for a while. Allow your heartbeat to mimic the gentle patter of rain. Breathe in tandem with the lapping ocean waves. Peace is within you, and all around; it’s already yours. It needs only to be remembered.

The Peace Gallery
Double Rainbow at Mauna Loa

Scrolling through the mountainous fields of Mauna Loa, out comes an end-to-end rainbow: a rare sight, a dashing view. Raging mists no more! The planet spins, atoms collide, its energy lilts and swirls. Everything dissolves eventually, yes, but masterpieces continue to manifest and unfold.
Slow Dusk at Deception Pass

At dusk, the wildflowers flutter with the waning breeze. The waters in the channel below ebb with the tide. Cool violets and soft blues grace the skies, whispering promises of the heavens. The wise evergreens grin as the bridge bids each traveler good-night.
Colorful Peace in Autumn Leaves

Amid the rain and earth, there are fiery reds, soft yellows, and the lingering greens, too—northwestern autumn leaves are Mother Nature’s silent, striking jewels. With veins and spines much like our own, it’s impossible not to marvel at how profoundly similar are our tones.
Solitude at Lake Twenty-Two

Atop a misty mountain, the lake boasts its natural ability to reflect the autumnal mood. With a book perched between thumb and finger, sleepy legs, and charmingly mud-spattered boots, this moment seated on a log is pristine for inspiration anew.
Post-Pumpkin Patch Reflections

Beneath this tree we lean back, anticipating the stars. How strange it is, we say, how our stories tell themselves. When an October wind rustles the branches, the fairy lights begin to sway. The dreamer, the dream—woven into this moment, each moment, every day.
Beauty and Relief in Fatigue

It is the end of a trying workday, one riddled with unlikely snow. Each toe and finger is frigid, but lo, the scene is a breath-take to behold. A quiet stream of warmth comes through the old, weary vents. One moment closer to being home.
Concentrated Stillness

Relax; stack stones before duties steal time away. On the beach there are plenty, warmed by the midwestern summer day. Beneath the driftwood shadows is a breezy window of relief. Adopt the stillness of the art to bring centeredness to your peace.

Bite-Sized Peace for a Full-Sized Week
This particular format is already setting off fireworks of inspiration in my brain. Perhaps if it’s well-received, then I can explore different themes for these bite-sized experiences of peace. But for now, I would love to know your thoughts.
May we all venture into this week with spaciousness, joy, creativity, and peace.
